About the Role

The Delmas Mine Manager (GCC) is a critical leadership position that oversees the full mining operation, ensuring delivery of production targets and optimal cost efficiency while maintaining a strong safety-first culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving business growth, managing operational budgets, and implementing cost-saving initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full mining operation, including overburden removal, coal extraction and handling, load and haul activities
  • Ensure delivery of production targets in line with business plans
  • Optimize productivity and throughput, equipment utilization, and cost per tonne
  • Act as the appointed 3.1 Mine Manager in terms of the MHSA, ensuring full compliance with all statutory, legal, and regulatory requirements
  • Drive a strong safety-first culture across all operations
  • Oversee risk management, audits, and safety systems
  • Maintain compliance with environmental standards and approvals
  • Manage operational budgets and cost control initiatives
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or output

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years experience in mining operations
  • Significant experience within opencast coal mining (highly advantageous)
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role (e.g. Section Manager / Mine Manager)
  • Track record of delivering production targets and cost efficiencies
  • Strong knowledge of opencast mining methods and equipment
  • Mine planning principles
  • Safety, health, and environmental regulations
