This senior-level consulting role requires a rare “two-in-one” hybrid professional. The resource will serve as both a high-level Technical Architect/Developer and an Implementation Project Leader. Tasked with overseeing the rollout of Eskom’s Primary Energy integrated Coal Automation System (CAS), this specialist will bridge the gap between complex system code/infrastructure and executive risk governance. They will ensure the technical ecosystem runs smoothly while simultaneously managing timelines, mitigating implementation risks, and driving user adoption across multiple operational sites. Compensation & Hours Hourly Rate: XXX-XXXX0 per hour Monthly Allocation: 160 hours per month Location: Megawatt Park, Sandton (with ~5% travel to various operational sites) Duration: 18-Month Contract (01 July 2026 31 December 2027) Split Core Responsibilities (The Hybrid Mix) Part 1: Technical Consultancy & Architecture The resource must possess the deep technical acumen required to act as an architect and developer, keeping the SAP ecosystem stable and integrated: Custom Development Oversight (ABAP): Evaluate and guide core programming, custom workflows, forms, and reports to ensure custom code aligns with Eskom’s production requirements. System Administration Governance (Basis): Oversee system stability, database tuning, user authorizations, and regression testing readiness prior to live system cut-overs. User Experience (SAP Fiori / UI5): Ensure modern, web-based user interfaces are properly deployed so the system is highly usable for everyday operational employees. Integration Ecosystems (PI/PO & BTP): Architect and safeguard the connections linking SAP to external, non-SAP industrial systems (IT/OT interfaces) utilizing SAP Process Integration or Business Technology Platform (BTP). Part 2: Project Management & Governance Leadership Simultaneously, the resource must step up as a high-level project leader to steer the implementation through its critical pre-production and live go-live phases: Implementation & Risk Management: Utilize SAP-specific methodologies (such as SAP Activate or ASAP) to manage rollout timelines, identify site-specific risks, and resolve live deployment issues. Solution Architecture: View the entire corporate IT/OT landscape holistically to design how various SAP modules, Coal Automation Systems, and third-party systems fit securely together. Change Management & Adoption: Address how the new system alters daily operational workflows, proactively leading efforts around user training, cultural shift, and long-term user adoption. Stakeholder & Contractor Management: Act as an independent reviewer of contractor performance while tracking and reporting value realization to Executive and Audit Committee stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications & Experience Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) in IT, Engineering, or Business and Information Technology Management. Industry Tenure: 15 years of heavyweight experience within industrial, utility, or energy sectors (specifically bridging IT/OT environments). Complex Projects: Demonstrated background in project engineering and construction management within mega, complex organizations. Key Outputs / Deliverables Integrated SAP risk assessment, stability, and mitigation reports. Technical and operational issue logs with immediate, actionable architecture solutions.
