About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Back-End Developer to join our team in Midrand. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for developing scalable backend solutions within large enterprise environments and collaborating with global teams to support application development and feature implementation. You will also assist business stakeholders with proof of concepts and business value calculations, as well as perform system testing, implementation, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop APIs and Big Data pipelines using Python, ETL, SQL, and Spark
- Develop scalable backend solutions within large enterprise environments
- Support development and operations of applications and features in collaboration with global teams
- Assist business stakeholders with proof of concepts and business value calculations
- Perform system testing, implementation, and quality assurance
- Review system designs and recommend improvements
- Prepare technical documentation aligned to ISO standards
- Create and execute automated test cases and processes
- Ensure test results are tracked and reported within Xray
- Support operational stability and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Expertise in API and ETL development
- Git development branching strategies and development approaches
- CI/CD pipeline development using Code Build and Github Actions
- Test driven development, Unit Testing, Functional Testing, Code Coverage
- Experience in Test Automation (e.g. Playwright)
- Knowledge of Terraform and IAC deployments
- PySpark pipeline development
- Knowledge of structured and unstructured databases
- Experience using AWS S3 Storage with Iceberg Tables and AWS Data Pipelines
- Linux scripting and environment usage
- AWS Development Skills and proficiency in Python (preferred), Java or SQL
- Strong software engineering and DevOps mindset
- Data and API Mining Security best practices
- Advanced monitoring and alerting pipelines
- Data Structures and Algorithms
- Integration between different technologies
- Story and EPIC refinement
- Solution architecture
- ODBC and file syncs
- Pre-commit hooks and coding standards (PEP8 / clean coding)
- GitHub Copilot
- Docker container creation and usage
- Apache Kafka and data streaming services
- Jira, Confluence, and Agile methodologies
- ITSM knowledge
- Knowledge of Palantir Foundry
- Frontend BI Tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or QlikView
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.)
