South Africa: nGAP Lecturer Digitalisation of TVET Post Schooling Education posted by Nelson Mandela University

Job Description

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Department of Higher Education and Training is implementing the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) under the Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) in partnership with South African state universities. Phase 11 of the nGAP has been approved by the DHET and its implementation is currently underway. The Faculty of Education at Nelson Mandela University has been allocated 1 post for this phase. The post is institution-based and permanent. The University wishes to recruit a candidate that has a passion for pursuing a career in academia. We thus invite applicants who are 40 years or younger, with a Master’s or PhD degree or who are currently enrolled or plan to enrol for a PhD degree, and who are from under-represented designated groups to apply for a positions in the Department of Post Schooling, in the Faculty of Education, at Nelson Mandela University.

The incumbent will be required to:
•Engage and manage teaching, learning and curriculum development in the digitalisation of TVET for sustainability within the Post Schooling Department
•Promote and conduct research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (Ai) in Education.
•Mentor and supervise postgraduate students at Honours and Master’s level.
•Mentor and evaluate students during College Based Learning
•Participate in academic administration, including serving on faculty committees.
•Engage in professional development activities to stay abreast of advancements in the areas of Digitisation, Robotics, AI in education, education pedagogies and research methodologies

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
•Facilitate learning and teaching at under and post graduate level
•Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed academic journals / academic platforms.
•Conduct research to complete a relevant post graduate qualification where required.
•Participate in academic and community engagements.
•Contribute to Faculty administration as required.

 

CORE COMPETENCIES
•Demonstrate sound knowledge and expertise in the Digitalisation of TVET for sustainability.
•Ability to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment to a diverse cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
•Ability to develop curricula and teaching resources for the Digitalisation of TVET, for sustainability.
•Proficiently navigate and utilise the FUNDA (or equivalent) Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate effective online teaching and learning experiences. This includes showing expertise in managing course materials,assignments, and assessments within the LMS platform.
•Additionally, demonstrate proficiency in customising and optimising the LMS interface to enhance user experience and engagement.
•Conduct scholarly work with a focus on Digitalisation of TVET for sustainability.
•Ability to supervise at honours and master’s levels.
•Ability to conduct research and produce scientific scholarly outputs in the field of Digitalisation of TVET for sustainability.
•Effective communication skills (verbal and written).

 

REQUIREMENTS
•Minimum: Relevant Master’s degree in Education/TVET/Digital Learning/Sustainability or equivalent.
•The master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above.
•The candidate must be a registered PhD candidate or intending to register within the first or second year of the
appointment with clear evidence of research focused on the above-stated themes.
•Minimum 1 year in lecturing and/or tutoring or some other form of facilitating learning in the higher education
sector in digital transformation, ICT/EdTech, or 4IR/digital skills and/or related fields.
•An Adv Diploma in TVET or PGCE would be an added advantage.
