Analytical Strategy & Model Development Develop and implement advanced mathematical, statistical, and machine learning models to address business problems and opportunities Optimise analytical methodologies and ensure alignment with organisational strategy Translate technical outputs into actionable business insights within approved architecture Build predictive models and automation solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive revenue growth Data Management & Governance Source, prepare, and validate data for analysis, ensuring quality and reliability Apply data wrangling principles to improve data integrity Ensure compliance with privacy laws, ethical data use, and governance standards Maintain and regularly update models for ongoing relevance and accuracy Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Partner with cross-functional teams to define metrics, delivery plans, and business information needs Present analytical findings and recommendations to stakeholders in clear, visual formats Mentor junior analysts and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement Contribute to specialist communities and organisational learning initiatives Innovation & Continuous Improvement Employ advanced analytics technologies, including AI, machine learning, and deep learning Conduct text analytics on unstructured data and apply pattern recognition for research Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance analytical capabilities Skills & Experience: Strong proficiency in statistical modelling, machine learning, and predictive analytics Advanced programming skills in R, Python, and experience with open-source platforms Ability to visualise data insights effectively for varied audiences Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills Proven track record in implementing AI and process automation solutions Familiarity with compliance, governance, and risk management frameworks Qualifications: Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Mathematical Sciences, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics, Physics, or Actuarial Science Preferred: Honours or Masters Degree Minimum 5 years experience in a senior data science role, with 12 years in a leadership or management capacity For more information Contact: Recruitment Consultant

Job & Role Description: Im looking to connect with Data Scientists who have proven experience applying machine learning, AI, and statistical modelling within banking or financial services environments. By partnering with me, youll be considered for multiple high-impact upcoming projects. Key Responsibilities: Analyse large-scale financial datasets to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities. Design, develop, and deploy AI and machine learning models for financial use cases. Build predictive models for credit risk, fraud detection, customer segmentation, and forecasting. Apply statistical modelling and time-series analysis to financial data. Work with structured and semi-structured data across multiple financial systems. Deploy models into production and monitor performance and model drift. Job Experience and Skills Required: Education: Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, IT, Data Science, Computer Science, or related quantitative fields. AWS Certified Data Analytics or Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate or Databricks Data Scientist Professional Certifications are advantageous. Experience: 3 years experience as a Data Scientist, preferably within Finance or Banking. Strong experience with Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn). Hands-on experience with Machine Learning and AI techniques. Exposure to Deep Learning, NLP, or Generative AI / LLMs (advantageous). Strong SQL skills and experience working with large financial datasets. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Experience deploying models via APIs or into production environments. About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will play a crucial role in extracting and analyzing digital, clinical, and behavioral data to inform product design and customer experience strategies for digital solutions. Your expertise in developing data science models and A/B testing pipelines will enable us to measure and optimize member engagement and user experiences for digital solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract and analyze digital, clinical, and behavioral data
  • Develop data science models and A/B testing pipelines for deployment
  • Apply statistical techniques, behavioral science principles, and data science models to measure and optimize member engagement and user experiences for digital solutions
  • Work closely with Organisation Health Digital to ensure insights and modelling inputs align with product objectives and app engagement outcomes
  • Collaborate with systems and engineering teams to integrate data science pipelines into the Health Systems and Health digital solutions
  • Present insights and results to business stakeholders and senior executives, highlighting the impact of personalized digital experiences on user engagement and experience

Requirements

  • BSc degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields with a minimum average of 65% across all subjects
  • 5 years’ experience as a Data Scientist
  • Ability to formulate a clear problem statement, develop a plan for tackling it, and clearly communicate findings verbally, visually, and in writing
  • Demonstrable working experience in an analytics position, where the focus was on building and implementing machine learning models to solve business problems
  • Experience accessing and analyzing data using language/tools/databases such as Python, R, SQL, etc.
  • Experience using Gradient Boosting Machines, Random Forests, Neural Networks or similar algorithms
