About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our analytics team, you will be responsible for driving business decisions through data-driven insights. You will work closely with actuaries, underwriters, and multidisciplinary teams to embed data science solutions into core business workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights
  • Develop, implement, and validate machine learning algorithms and statistical models
  • Build predictive models to uncover insights that support business decisions
  • Participate in the design, development, troubleshooting, and support of reporting and analytics platforms
  • Collaborate with teams to embed data science solutions into core business workflows
  • Develop BI solutions using SQL, ETL scripting, and the Microsoft BI Stack
  • Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to process structured and unstructured data
  • Automate recurring processes and monitor data-related workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Information Technology
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist, ideally within life or non-life insurance
  • Proficiency in Python, R, Java, or related programming languages
  • Minimum 4 years experience with:
  • Power BI (essential)
  • Azure Data Factories (essential)
  • Azure Synapse Analytics (essential)
  • Microsoft SQL Server (critical)
  • T-SQL (critical)
  • Python/R, C++, C#, Java (critical)

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, data modelling, and experimental design
  • Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will design and deploy machine learning, statistical, and AI-driven solutions across the full data lifecycle. Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end data workflows: extraction, cleansing, preparation, analysis, and modelling
  • Design and deliver impactful dashboards and visualisations to communicate insights
  • Build, test, and deploy statistical and machine learning models using SAS, Python, and SQL
  • Develop innovative AI-driven solutions for complex business challenges
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into clear, structured analytical approaches
  • Work within AWS and SAS Viya environments for scalable development and deployment
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand needs before designing solutions
  • Present insights, recommendations, and model outputs in a clear, business-focused manner

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations

  • Develop BI solutions using SQL, ETL scripting, and Microsoft BI tools

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support analytics and BI environments
