About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will leverage data to drive insights, inform decision-making, and enhance life and non-life insurance operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to work with complex datasets, develop machine learning models, and build scalable data pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations
- Generate and test hypotheses, providing actionable insights to the business
- Develop, implement, and validate machine learning models, including AI and GenAI solutions
- Design and develop end-to-end data science solutions using Azure, Docker, and FastAPI
- Participate in the analysis, design, development, troubleshooting, and support of reporting and analytics platforms
- Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for large volumes of structured and unstructured data
- Collaborate with actuaries, underwriters, and cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions into business processes
- Automate recurring processes and implement monitoring mechanisms
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Information Technology
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a Data Scientist or similar role
- Experience within the financial services or insurance industry is advantageous
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, C++, C#, or Java (critical)
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL (critical)
- Hands-on experience with Power BI (essential)
- Experience with Azure Data Factory (essential)
- Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics (critical)
