About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Agricultural/Horticultural Extension Officer/Exports to join our team in Phalaborwa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture and commercial agriculture, with a proven track record of working with export products and commercial farms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and support to farmers on land preparation, fertilization, chemical spray programs, planting, irrigation, harvesting, packaging, and transportation.
  • Conduct farm visits to monitor crop progress, ensure growers follow technical and safety standards, and handle grower concerns and complaints.
  • Organize grower meetings, study groups, and share operational information with farmers, including tech advice and compliance updates.
  • Advise growers on agric practices, knowledge of edible nightshades cultivation, and quality control (Q.C.).
  • Report progress on farmer recruitment, production, and complaints to the Agric Manager.
  • Schedule and conduct farm visits, provide technical guidance, document crop progress, and ensure growers follow technical and safety standards.
  • Handle grower concerns, complaints, and enquiries, and report weekly to the Agric Manager.

Requirements

  • English and Afrikaans speaking proficiency
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Horticulture/Crop Science)
  • Comp Lit or Excel skills

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years proven experience as a Horticultural Extension Officer/Advisor on export products, commercial farms, with a focus on edible nightshades.
