Cape Town City Centre: Senior Bookkeeper

About the Role

The Senior Bookkeeper role at our firm is an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal bookkeeper to join a structured and professional environment. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate processing and control of our business and trust accounts, while supporting directors and auditors with financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full bookkeeping for business and trust accounts up to Trial Balance Month-end processing and preparation of management reports
  • Processing and review of fee transfers from Trust to Business
  • Invoicing of conveyancing and bond fees on AJS
  • Assisting directors with WIP postings, timesheets, and finalising invoices
  • Management of debtors and follow-ups on outstanding payments
  • Review of creditor processing and reconciliations
  • Payroll processing on Sage Professional Payroll, including PAYE submissions
  • VAT reconciliations and submissions
  • Maintenance of long-term cash flow forecasts
  • Preparation of audit files for: Statutory financial audits, Annual Attorney Trust Audit
  • Liaising with external auditors and providing supporting documentation
  • Statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Basic HR administration including leave records and employment documentation
  • Assisting with preparation of directors tax information for auditors

Requirements

Tertiary Accounting qualification (Diploma or Degree BCom / BAcc advantageous)

Minimum 3 years experience in a Senior Bookkeeper or Financial Accountant role

Legal firm experience highly advantageous

Solid understanding of trust accounting and legal compliance

Experience working with AJS and Sage Payroll beneficial
