Job Description

BOOKKEEPER Minimum skills and experience required: Minimum 3-5 years bookkeeping experience Strong Pastel Accounting experience (non-negotiable) Experience in property development / real estate advantageous Solid understanding of accounting principles Strong reconciliation skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Good communication and organisational skills Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain full books to trial balance and balance sheet standard Process daily financial transactions, including cashbook, journals and general ledger Capture and reconcile supplier invoices, statements, and payments Manage debtors and ensure timeous collection Perform bank, supplier, and customer reconciliations Prepare month-end reports and assist with the audit requirements Process VAT, PAYE, UIF and ensure statutory compliance Support the finance team with ad hoc financial and administrative tasks Maintain accurate records for multiple property-related projects Track expenses, budgets, and cash flow where required

Job Description

Key Responsibilities Financial Processing & Xero Management Process all daily financial transactions in Xero, including sales, purchases, expenses, and bank entries. Maintain accurate, up-to-date ledgers and ensure overall data integrity. Bring the books to trial balance stage. Perform frequent bank, supplier, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations with zero unexplained items. Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Process supplier invoices, allocate receipts, match payments, and resolve discrepancies. Prepare customer invoices. Maintain the accounts receivable ledger. Follow up on overdue payments when required. Ensure correct VAT treatment on all transactions. Maintain complete supporting documentation. VAT, Compliance & Reporting Support Assist with preparing VAT workings and schedules for review and SARS submissions. Support month-end processes, including reconciliations, schedules, accruals, and prepayment adjustments. Provide accountants with timely documentation for VAT reviews, payroll reconciliations, reporting, and compliance. Payroll & Administration Maintain accurate payroll data on SimplePay and process monthly payroll inputs under supervision. Keep a well-organised digital filing system with complete, audit-ready documentation. Liaise with internal teams, clients, and suppliers to obtain documentation and resolve financial queries. Prepare and update tracking sheets (e.g., laptop repayments, staff deductions, interest calculations, reimbursements). Process Improvement Identify processing issues or inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and workflow. Requirements 23 years minimum bookkeeping/processing experience in a similar role. Strong proficiency in Xero (Certification preferred). Experience with SimplePay payroll administration. Intermediate to advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivots, basic formulas). Relevant accounting qualification (Certificate/Diploma/Degree) is advantageous. Solid understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals: reconciliations, ledgers, VAT treatment, and basic month-end processes. Basic knowledge of intercompany transactions and the ability to process them accurately. Exceptional attention to detail with meticulous, accurate work habits. Strong time-management skills; able to work independently and consistently meet deadlines. Clear, professional communication skills with staff, suppliers, customers, and service providers. Tech-proficient and adaptable, comfortable working in a fast-evolving technology environment. Strong organisational skills, particularly in maintaining structured digital filing systems. Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve discrepancies and improve processes. With offices in Omagh and Cape Town, they specialise in providing bookkeeping and VAT services to both UK and ROI businesses. Their Cape Town office plays a crucial role in delivering consistent, high-standard support to clients abroad. The Role: Bookkeeper This is a full-time, office-based position for the first year, after which it may transition to a hybrid setup. The role involves handling a wide range of bookkeeping tasks and ensuring timely and accurate VAT submissions for UK and ROI companies. You”ll be part of a supportive team responsible for maintaining accurate records and meeting compliance standards using cloud-based software. Key Responsibilities Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a bookkeeping role Process sales and purchase invoices, cheque payments, direct debits, and transfers Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records Complete monthly and quarterly VAT returns (UK and ROI) Enter data into accounting software, primarily cloud-based systems Use Excel to support reporting and financial tracking Assist with general financial admin tasks as needed About You Recent experience in a bookkeeping position National Senior Certificate with passes in English and Mathematics (50% or above) Experience using computerised accounts packages (Xero experience preferred) Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word Strong numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines Excellent time management and multitasking skills Team player with a proactive mindset

Key Roles and Responsibilities: Payroll for Clients Capture monthly payrolls for various clients Submit payrolls by relevant due dates Manage various statutory submission requirements with SARS/Dept of Labour (IRP5s, EMP501s, EMP201s, etc) Statutory submission with SARS/Dept of Labour (IRP5s, EMP501s, EMP201s, WCA, Ufiling etc) Statutory Queries with SARS/Dept of Labour (IRP5s, EMP501s, EMP201s, etc) Attend to client queries/Emails Maintain a good working relationship with client Display a positive attitude towards the assignment, colleagues and the client Monthly billing fees and WIP write-off Monthly Accounting Services Attend to client queries/Emails Maintain a good working relationship with client Display a positive attitude towards the assignment, colleagues and the client Processing of client data in Xero and managing DEXT Processing Debtors and or Sales Invoices Processing Creditors Processing & Reconciled Bank Processing Payroll Journals and Salary control reconciliation Processing Fixed Assets register (on Xero or Excel) Processing All Other Journals VAT Output and Balance Reconciliation Completing VAT 201 and following up on payments due to SARS Management report to clients Minimum Requirements A tertiary qualification in Accounting or related field; At least 5 year experience as a Bookkeeper; Xero experience would be beneficial. Strong administration skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English & Afrikaans; Detail consciousness with a drive to implement and complete tasks at hand; Computer literacy in Microsoft office essentials; Intermediate excel skills; Excellent problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and against deadlines; Approachable and well presented; Own Transport would be beneficial. .
