Port Elizabeth: Senior Bookkeeper (Property)

About the Role

The Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing the bookkeeping function for a property portfolio, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with regulations, and efficient management of property-related financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain full set of books for multiple properties/entities
  • Reconcile: General ledger accounts Daily Takings Deposit Control Account Suspense Account
  • Prepare and post journals
  • Manage tenant billing/Invoicing (Novtel Property Management Program)
  • Maintain/update Tenant info on Novtel Property-Specific Accounting
  • Reconcile rental income, deposits, and lease schedules
  • Drafting of New leases
  • Update Rental Schedules and Property Vacant Schedules
  • Manage NMBM utility recoveries, levies, and property expenses (Mid-Month and Month End Municipal Schedules Watelec Reports Excel Sheets
  • Attend to Municipal Queries
  • Handle tenant deposit accounting in line with legal requirements
  • Generate financial reports for property owners/investors
  • Compliance & Audit
  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws and property regulations
  • Assist with year-end audits and liaise with external auditors
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails
  • Payroll Weekly and Monthly Payroll Run (Print Load on the Absa Banking System)
  • Capture Leave days per employee
  • Monthly SARS Returns Excel Sheets
  • Handle SARS Related queries/Statement of Accounts Staff Contracts

Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5 years bookkeeping experience, preferably in the Accounting or property sector
  • Experience managing multiple entities or property portfolios
  • Strong knowledge of property management accounting systems

Qualifications

  • Afrikaans home language and English
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Payroll, or Excel)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Driver’s license and own vehicle
