About the Role

Our client is a respected and rapidly evolving player within the insurance industry, seeking a seasoned CFO to partner closely with the CEO, Board, and key stakeholders to shape the financial direction, stability, and future growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the executive leadership team to shape and execute the organisation’s strategic direction.
  • Provide commercial and financial insights to support business growth, pricing strategies, and product development initiatives.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Oversee accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in line with regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with IFRS standards, including IFRS 17 and IFRS 9, as well as SAM and insurance regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage statutory reporting obligations and maintain effective relationships with the Prudential Authority (PA) and FSCA.
  • Drive capital adequacy, liquidity management, and solvency oversight within the SAM framework.
  • Lead capital optimisation strategies and balance sheet management initiatives.
  • Oversee treasury, taxation, audit engagements, and external funding relationships.
  • Strengthen governance frameworks, internal controls, and enterprise-wide financial risk management practices.
  • Collaborate closely with actuarial, compliance, risk, and audit teams to ensure alignment across the business.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance function.
  • Present financial results, strategic insights, and business performance updates to the Board and executive committees.

Requirements

  • Chartered Accountant (SA) qualification (non-negotiable).
  • Postgraduate qualification such as an MBA would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years’ senior financial management experience within the insurance sector.
  • At least 5 years’ experience operating at executive or CFO level.
  • Strong exposure to the South African insurance regulatory environment, including engagement with the PA and FSCA.
